You’ve chosen the perfect wedding card material. You’ve finalized the colour palette, the foil shade, and even the wax seal. But then you stare at the blank card mockup and freeze: “What do I actually write on this thing?”
You’re not alone. At The Framers, we’ve worked on thousands of wedding invitations — and the wording is almost always the step that stalls couples the longest. And it makes sense: your shaadi card text needs to strike the right balance between formal and warm, between cultural tradition and personal style, and between Urdu and English.
The good news? We’ve done the hard work for you. In this guide, you’ll find ready-to-use wedding card wording templates for every event in a Pakistani wedding — nikkah, barat, walima, and mehendi — in both Urdu and English. Copy them, customize them, and send them to your card designer.
1. Wedding Card Wording Basics: The Essential Elements
Before we dive into the templates, every Pakistani wedding card — regardless of the event — should include these core elements:
| Element | Example | Notes |
| Bismillah or Islamic invocation | بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم | Almost always at the top. Most Pakistani families include this. |
| Host names | Parents of the bride/groom | Traditionally, the parents issue the invitation. In modern cards, couples may co-host. |
| Bride & Groom names | Ahmed & Ayesha | Prominently featured. Custom calligraphy makes these stand out. |
| Event name | Nikkah Ceremony / Shadi / Walima | So guests know which function they’re invited to. |
| Date & Day | Saturday, 15th March 2026 | Include both the English date and the Islamic date if your family prefers. |
| Time | 7:00 PM onwards | Use a specific start time. “Onwards” is standard in Pakistan. |
| Venue | Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore | Full name and city. Optionally add the hall/marquee name. |
| RSVP / Contact | Contact: 0300-1234567 | Optional but helpful, especially for seated dinners. |
Pro Tip: Keep the text concise. Your wedding card has limited space — especially on acrylic and glass cards. The most elegant invitations say just enough and no more.
2. Nikkah Invitation Wording
The nikkah is the most sacred Islamic ceremony. The wording should be respectful, warm, and spiritually grounded.
Template B: Modern English
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Together with their families,
[Groom’s Name]
Son of [Father’s Name] & [Mother’s Name]
and
[Bride’s Name]
Daughter of [Father’s Name] & [Mother’s Name]
request the honour of your presence at their
Nikkah Ceremony
[Day], [Date]
[Time]
[Venue Name, City]
“And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them.” — Quran 30:21
With the blessings of Almighty Allah, the families of [Groom’s Name] and [Bride’s Name] cordially invite you to grace the Nikkah Ceremony of their beloved children.
[Date] | [Time] | [Venue, City]
3. Barat Invitation Wording
The barat is the grandest event — the formal wedding celebration. The wording should reflect the scale and joy of the occasion.
Template B: Modern English
With immense joy and gratitude,
[Father’s Name] & [Mother’s Name]
invite you to celebrate the wedding of their son
[Groom’s Name]
with
[Bride’s Name] Daughter of [Bride’s Father’s Name]
Wedding Ceremony (Barat)
[Day], [Date]
[Time]
[Venue Name, City]
Dinner to follow | Kindly RSVP to [Number]
Template C: Short & Elegant (For Acrylic/Glass Cards)
Because acrylic wedding cards and glass wedding cards have limited printable space, shorter wording works best:
[Groom’s Name] & [Bride’s Name]
request your presence at their
Barat
[Date] · [Time]
[Venue, City]
With love & anticipation
Pro Tip: On acrylic and glass cards, less is more. Let the material and design do the heavy lifting. Simple calligraphy with just names, event, date, and venue creates the most visually striking result. You can include full details in a separate insert or envelope card.
4. Walima Invitation Wording
The walima (reception) is typically hosted by the groom’s family. The tone should be warm and inviting — a celebration of gratitude and sharing joy.
Template B: English
In celebration of the marriage of
[Groom’s Name] & [Bride’s Name]
their families invite you to a
Walima Reception
[Day], [Date]
[Time]
[Venue, City]
We look forward to sharing this blessed occasion with you.
5. Mehendi Invitation Wording
The mehendi is the most vibrant, festive, and informal function. The wording can be playful, colourful, and fun — matching the spirit of the event.
Template A: Playful English
🌺 It’s Mehndi Time! 🌺
Get ready to dance, sing, and celebrate!
[Bride’s / Groom’s Name]’s Mehndi
[Date] | [Time]
[Venue, City]
Wear your brightest outfit. Leave your worries at the door.

Mehndi Celebration
in honour of their daughter/son
[Bride’s/Groom’s Name]
[Day], [Date]
[Time]
[Venue, City]
6. Combined / Multi-Event Invitation Wording
Many Pakistani couples now send a single invitation card listing all events. This is practical, cost-effective, and increasingly popular — especially when using premium materials like acrylic.
Template: Multi-Event Card
[Groom’s Parents’ Names] and [Bride’s Parents’ Names]
Invite you to celebrate the wedding festivities of

7. Wording Tips & Etiquette
Do’s ✅
- Be consistent: If you start in Urdu, stay in Urdu. If bilingual, keep the balance even.
- Proofread everything twice: Your designer will print exactly what you provide. Typos on 300 acrylic cards are expensive mistakes.
- Include Bismillah: Expected by most Pakistani families, especially for nikkah and barat cards.
- Match formality to format: Formal wording for barat and walima. Playful wording for mehendi.
- Consider the material: Keep text shorter for acrylic and glass cards. Use a separate detail insert if needed.
Don’ts ❌
- Don’t overcrowd: Resist the urge to add poetry, Quranic verses, AND detailed event instructions — all on one card.
- Don’t use ALL CAPS: It reads as shouting and looks inelegant on premium cards.
- Don’t forget the basics: We’ve had clients submit cards without the venue name. Triple-check: date, time, venue, names.
- Don’t mix too many fonts: Let your designer choose 2-3 complementary typefaces maximum.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I write my wedding card in Urdu or English?
There’s no right answer — it depends on your audience. If most of your guests are Urdu-speaking families, Urdu is the natural choice. If you have a mix of English-speaking friends and family, bilingual wording works best. For international guests (diaspora weddings), English-only is perfectly acceptable. Many of our clients at The Framers use English on the main card and include an Urdu insert for traditionally-minded family members.
How much text can fit on an acrylic or glass wedding card?
Less than you’d think. We recommend a maximum of 60-80 words for acrylic wedding cards and 50-70 words for glass wedding cards to maintain visual clarity. Detailed event information (RSVP numbers, dress codes, maps) can go on a separate printed insert tucked inside the envelope.
Is it okay to send one card for all events (nikkah, barat, walima, mehendi)?
Absolutely! Multi-event cards are becoming more popular in Pakistan — they’re practical and cost-effective. A single acrylic card listing all four events looks clean and modern. Alternatively, many couples order a coordinated suite with separate cards for each event, presented together in a single envelope or box.
Can I include Quranic verses or Hadith on my wedding card?
Yes, and it’s very common in Pakistani weddings. The most popular verse for nikkah cards is Surah Ar-Rum 30:21 (“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them…”). Just make sure the Arabic text is properly sourced and accurately rendered — your designer should verify this.
Do you offer calligraphy services for Urdu text?
Yes. At The Framers, we have in-house Urdu calligraphy capabilities. We can render your wedding card text in elegant Nastaliq script, modern Urdu typography, or a blend of Urdu and English calligraphy. Share your preferred style, and we’ll create a custom layout.
